Will Frédéric Fekkai's at home color keep me Pretty on a tight budget?

Today's Image section and my rapidly shrinking budget has me thinking about this Frédéric Fekkai at-home color kit. While I'm usually a box-colorer, I was about to succumb to the constant berating I get every time I go for a haircut. I swear, every time I go to the salon I'm asked "so...how do you color your hair?" Probably its poor health is a tip-off and I face their question with the same guilt and dread that I feel when I go to the dentist and they ask "how often do you floss?"

So I was this close to actually getting my hair colored by a pro, but I was putting it off because of the cost and time commitment: as much as I liked getting pampered, my last salon-coloring took about two and half hours and I was left with a red that wasn't as bright as I would have liked, a much lighter wallet, and a parking ticket. Ech.

So I think I'm going to waltz in to Fekkai's and lay down the $30 for one of these babies. From what I've read, the results are pretty good.

My only concern now is doing my routine red, or switching to Zoe Deschanel brown. (I do have to keep reminding myself that simply trying to emulate her hair color won't turn me into Zoe Deschanel as much as I would like it to.) Perhaps I'll asked the experts at Fekkai for a consult? Or will they get all testy that I'm asking for their opinion when I'm only getting a box color? Stay tuned for the Pretty update!

Totally can't wait to see what you think! I'm so not into salons anymore, can't afford them!

$30? still pricey for a haircolor, but I can see how it's cheaper doing it at home.
