Reduce, Reuse, Retote

Listen up Pretties, plastic bags are bad news and Not Pretty! Most get thrown away and are never reused. Even those bags that to get new life lining your garbage inevitably end up in landfills. Here are some scary facts about your seemingly harmless plastic bags via ReuseableBags.com:
  • Each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. That comes out to over one million per minute. Billions end up as litter each year.
  • Plastic bags don't biodegrade, they photodegrade - breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits contaminating soil and waterways and entering the food web when animals accidentally ingest.
  • According to the EPA, over 380 billion plastic bags, sacks and wraps are consumed in the U.S. each year.
  • Hundreds of thousands of sea turtles, whales and other marine mammals die every year from eating discarded plastic bags mistaken for food. (Image via MarineBio Blog)

Something must be done! Well, it has been, thanks to high powered duo Target and TerraCycle. The companies teamed up to create a stylish and Eco-friendly bag, the Retote. Made from old Target bags the Retote Reuseable Bag is ideal for those monthly Target shopping sprees; like thoseTarget trips where you go in for toothpaste and end up with a whole basket of goodies. The bag is very durable and I'm confident putting all heavy items in mine.

The Retote is $5.99 and available in Target stores only, not online. Based upon their website reviews, it seems like it's a hot item that's not easy to find. Keep an eye out on your next Target trip or call your local Target stores(we know you visit more than one) to see if they have it in stock.

Remember the Retote: smart shopping that helps the environment stay Pretty.
