Give back with Kiehl's

One of our fave skin care lines is doing some serious giving back for Earth Day. Their new environmental fund raising celebrity partnership involves a limited collection of Superbly Restorative Argan Body Lotion that will raise funds for Waterkeeper Alliance. 100% of net Kiehl's proceeds from the series will go towards the organization. This project hits stores and the Kiehls.com on Earth Day, April 22. Waterkeeper Alliance aims to keep our water clean from pollutants - sounds excellent to us!

Kiehl's recently partnered with Adrien Grenier, Erykah Badu, Kelly Slater, and a team of students from Parsons The New School for Design to create the unique and collectible labels for their project. That means there are four unique labels for you to purchase up so you can lather up with that soothing body lotion.

Tim Gunn on Ralph's: "A fabulous food emporium!"

Oh do we love the kindly, earnest, and always delightful Tim Gunn. And we also so appreciate how much he raved about loving our city to USA Today. Apparently, had the "there's so much traffic and everyone's stuck in their car" opinion of LA. Luckily, the six weeks he was forced to spend here to shoot the never-to-be-seen LA season of Project Runway gave him ample opportunity to feel some LA love. As he explained:

"Last fall, I was in Los Angeles for five weeks while we taped Project Runway season six. I had visited LA many times before, but those trips were always a mere day or two. My impression of the city was lukewarm: a sprawling megalopolis where people spend inordinate amounts of time trapped in idling vehicles. What's the appeal of that? So, I arrived in LA for my record-breaking stay with huge doses of apprehension. (But) I fell in love with Los Angeles! I found it to be a cultural treasure chest, with fabulous museums, architecture, and entertainment. And the weather was so sunny and sublime that I actually began to long for a cloud to pass by. Furthermore, I embraced the city as a pedestrian (!) and greatly respected the jaywalking enforcements, which I wish were in place in my dear home of New York, because it makes navigation so much safer and civilized. Finally, everyone should experience Ralph's, a fabulous food emporium that's unlike anything that we have here in New York. I shopped there every day. It was my therapy!"

While are every so happy that Tim is hearting LA, it makes us wonder: does New York even have grocery stores? If he's this enthralled with Ralph's, what's this poor man used to?

What about the CAT???

Flying cat alert! Kenley Collins, most known for her pretty feather headwear and being the one PR contestant who could get under Tim Gunn's skin, was just involved in a domestic dispute. The victim? Her (we hope, ex) fiance Zak Penley, the man with the scared, frozen smile in the picture below:

Apparently, she woke him up by throwing their cat in his face (alert PETA!!!) and then she switched to throwing a laptop at him. After falling to the floor, he tried to crawl away, and that's when Kenley slammed a door on his head and then began pelting him with apples. Oh, and lest we forget, she also poured water on him. The poor guy called 911 and she was promptly jailed.

According to The Celebrity New Examiner, she was released. But what about the cat??? Hopefully TMZ's reporters are on the case!

Supermodel Coco Rocha is primarily known for her stage presence and striking look. But, according to her blog did you also know that she loves to doodle? Yes! She is a stellar artist who can sketch out everything from houses to monkeys.

Felonies and a Kid's Choice Award?

The crew at AC360 (The Silver Fox, Anderson Cooper's show) just posted that bully Chris Brown is still in the running for a Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Award. We're shocked that Nick didn't take him off of the nomination list after his altercations with the law!

After all, when Jamie Lynn Spears got knocked up her show was pulled off the air instantly. Well they claimed "hiatus" but we all know the truth.

So, shame on you Nickelodeon! Let the kids choose between and Jesse MacCartney, Kid Rock,T-Pain for male singer! Pull Brown outta there!

Besides there really shouldn't be any competition; the winner has gotta be T-Pain for the magic that is: "I'm on a Boat" with Andy Samberg.

Louis Vuitton has a case of the fug

From fragrance to apparel celebrities morphing into designers are hard to ignore. However, the Kanye West for Louis Vuittion sneakers are something we can't ignore, I tried.

Nothing says upper-class angst like bright colored designer high tops. These are so ugly, but that probably means they'll end up being cool and featured in magazines and music videos. This is just going to inflate West's ego even more. Hopefully his balloon head will float him back to his home planet before he can create any more fugly designs.

Pretty Piloxing

Since bikini season is just around the corner we are all about our Pretty Fitness here at Pretty Headquarters. The latest endeavor is Piloxing! This is what happens when boxing and pilates have a baby. Piloxing is no child's play though, this is a high energy intense workout that will sculpt your arms and butt.
If y0u happen to live in the Toluca Lake area then you can take actual Piloxing classes at the company's studio. But, for the rest of us there's the Piloxing DVD that I recently tried out. I highly recommend purchasing the Piloxing gloves to get the full effect from this workout. They are super cute and weigh one pound each. I know, that doesn't sound like much, but when you're doing the intense moves you'll totally feel the burn. The pain is so worth it though because the gloves provide the perfect amount of added weight and resistance. Plus, if you get tired you can always take them off (we won't tell).

As you can see, the Pretty Viveca Jensen will keep you motivated throughout the entire exercise. It's like having your own celebrity trainer in your living room. She has worked with the likes of Hilary Duff, Alexis Bledel, and Amanda Bynes.

I must warn you that your arms will be sore the next day and don't push yourself too hard the first time you try Piloxing. Also, some of the moves you may have to work yourself up to since there are a variety of intervals.

What are you waiting for? Go Pilox it up!

How the Pretties are doing in this economy

We always keep out eyes out for what the Pretties are into, and The Beauty Counter Blog went right to the source asking the Prettiest of the Pretties how they're dealing with keeping up their beauty regimen in a Not in this Economy! type of climate:

Milla Jovovich (model/mom/Joan of Arc/designer/Target Fan):

Your big investment must always be on skincare. It's just something I believe you
can't skimp on. I swear by the Swiss brand Cellcosmet.

Chanel Iman, the hottest model to come out of Fairfax High:

Hands down value for your money is Rosebud Lip Balm at Sephora. It’s just this one product that softens your cuticles, cures baby rash, and glosses up your lips. Cheap mascaras like Maybelline work better for me. The ones that charge more seem to clot. It’s crazy but true!

Freida Pinto, IT girl of the moment

Times are hard but I believe less is more. Concealer is the essential element. I swear by Vichy’s
Dermablend. It’s very skin friendly. If I want to add to this I use mascara (Chanel) and lip gloss. My favorite color is Tangerine Jet by Dior.

Scrimping with Dior and Chanel? Something tells me Frieda didn't understand the question.

LA designer gets a dress at Oscars!

File this under "yes, there is fashion in Los Angeles."

Alongside the very Pretty James Franco at the Oscars was his lovely girlfriend Ahna O'Reilly wearing an LA designer to Hollywood's biggest awards show!

Designer Aura Cerel is a Romanian-native who produces often handmade dresses and costume jewelry under the label evaculture. You can get her designs at Curve and, according to Fashion Rules, she's even having a trunk show there this Saturday.

Curve (154 N. Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles).

LC confuses LA for CandyLand

Here's a book I'm going to talk about, but it's highly unlikely that I'll be flipping through the pages of Lauren Conrad's LA Candy. It's "written" by her and seems to be loosely based on her own life. The plot of a girl who unexpectedly becomes the star of a reality TV show after moving to Los Angeles, sounds a lot like The Hills, but without all the fancy editing and trendy music. Although, I'm sure there will be lots of crying between main character Jane Roberts and her friend Scarlett.

I can tell you first hand that LA is no CandyLand, well maybe West Hollywood. The novel comes out June 16 and will be followed by two more releases. Yay?

Gold thong encore?

Pam Anderson's exposing catwalk strut during Richie Rich's show at NY Fashion week left everyone gasping for air. She'll follow up this revealing performance by gracing the stage at Vivienne Westwood's show in Paris next week. This boobified celeb is already the face of Westwood's Spring/Summer 2009 ad campaign photographed by Juergen Teller. FYI that is the Vivienne Westwood standing next the shirtless man and great dane below.

Oscar-winning perfume

When she's not busy being totally hot, Halle Berry makes her own perfume. Well she's teamed up with Coty so all you Pretties can have a chance to buy her creation when it hits stores next week. Yes another freaking celebrity perfume. When will the madness stop???

We do love the packaging that reminds us of the 70s. Halle by Halley Berry features mimosa and fig essences that are supposed to create "the spirit of a woman who is effortlessly sexy, stylish and elegant," i.e. Halle Berry. Who knows? It may be a little bit classier than smelling like a porn star.

Get Reese's Oscar look for less

While I've made my point that Reese Witherspoon's dress and onstage throw-it-up-into-a-bun hair could have used some help, her red carpet makeup was wonderful. And since Reese is Avon's global ambassador, they're giving us a way to emulate her Oscar look without shelling out the big bucks.

Start with the perfect canvas by using MagiX Face Perfector SPF 20. It will give you a red-carpet look in no time. Its air-light gel-powder formula makes skin of all tones look flawless and it banishes shine for up to 10 hours. It's formulation was inspired by the soft-focus technology in cameras which help actresses like Reese have perfect looking skin, and it will help you look amazing in the party pictures you'll be in on a big night out. Plus it's a bargain: on sale for $7.99!

Want Reese's rosy cheeks? Use Avon's Be Blushed Cheek Color. It's ultra-blendable stick formula won't streak and will add soft, creamy color. And it's also on sale for $5.99!

Reese's dark dramatic eyes can be copied by basing your entire lid with Jillian Dempsey for Avon Professional Kohl Eye Liner in Navy. Or if that's a bit too much, try just using it as a liner. It includes a built in smudger and is super soft of comfortable for sensitive eyes. A deal at $6!

Finish off with luscious lips courtesy of Avon's Big Color Glossy Lip Pencil in Glossy Rose. It's an extra money-saving product because it's a liner and gloss in one (a great way to save precious room in your night-out clutch). The pencil defines your lips with juicy color then gives it a divine shine to illuminate your lips all night long. Plus it's a steal at $6!

And there you have it - all you need for Reese's night-out look with money left to buy a round for your friends. We know Jake liked it:

Style sins in 'The City'

We admit it, we haven't been keeping up with the lovely Whitney Port and her antics on The City. We're still a tad upset that she left LA for those dreary New Yorkers. Even though the show is getting a second season, it seems like the style is taking a downturn. Xiyian Tang of Refinery29 (yes I read their site a lot), found the top 5 style sins:
1. Wearing the same outfit as the roommate you're feuding with on the most loaded holiday of the year

2. Headgear as a walking target versus fashionable accessory

3. Wearing a "timeless" outfit to a rock concert you're not on time for

4. Making plaid the symbol of your "downtown" persona

5. Loading up on eye make-up when you know you're about to lose all your marbles

Can you match each 'sin' to it's guilty character? full explanation here.

Stylists stupidly mess with perfection at Oscars

Thanks to the boys at Project Rungay, we truly got to see some dumbass decisions that were made at the Oscars this year when it came to altering the runway versions of gowns. Marion Cotillard's Dior dress looked bleh to me (especially compared to the perfection that she wore last year), and then I saw the runway version:

What was kind of a wierd, tulle mess becomes instant avant-guard action. Why couldn't they have just left it in the original, awesome form? This a great example of ruining a great dress by trying to play it safe.
No this Marchesa is way too Pretty, I need to add a horrible mermail tail to it so that I can make it like EVERYONE else's dress. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Again, I think Reese's camp wanted this Rodarte to be more mainstream looking (and wanted to cover up her boobies) so they decided to add some sequins? It looks dumb. Everyone could tell she was wearing some nude-bra-weird-thing, so you might as well have kept it the way it was so that the nude-bra-weird-thing was part of the design. Plus the colors on the original version are way more watercolor fun -- Reese's dress just looks dreary. And as I mentioned before, her hair looked like shit.

This modification was the ultimate F-you to Marchesa. (And BTW, why was Vanessa Hudgens and Miley Cyrus even there? Charlize, Cate, and Uma sit at home and this is what you fill the seats with?) They take a gorgeous dramatic cocktail dress and instead of just modifying it by simply making it longer, they put on yet another horrific fishtail. Ridiculous. And to make matters worse they mess with the gorgeous flowers and again do the "we want to make it safe" alterations and what you get is a fugly dress. Of all of them this is the one that makes me the most angry.

What is the scent of a porn star?

Well now you can know for yourself because Jenna Jameson is releasing her own perfume called Heartbreaker and we should wear it because "life is short, break all the hearts you can." Okay.

For the unenlightened, Jenna has a really, really bad tattoo on her right butt cheek that brands her as a heart breaker. It was drawn by an ex BF of hers. I know all this because I read her absolutely amazing book How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale

While I can't recommend the perfume because I have yet to experience the heartbreak, I totally recommended this book, it's really an amazing page-tuner.

How Franco gets Pretty

After the Golden Globes showcased the scruffier side of our favorite leading men, the Oscars were a bit more clean shaven and dressed up. We found out how sexy actor, James Franco got Pretty with help from Hamadi. To achieve James' hot hairstyle Jamal Hamadi blew out his curly hair. Then he applied Hamadi Shea Hair Cream to his palms and ran it through James' luscious locks to get the desired texture and style.

Hamadi made Franco's hot hair style for The Independent Spirit Awards, as well as, the Ocsars. (Notice the difference in facial hair-Oscar was clean shaven all the way). Apparently, Hamadi makes an excellent St. Patrick's Day gift too! Get it online.
