When fashion falls down

Remember that infamous kiss between Madonna and Britney? Remember what they were wearing?

Well, it was Louis Verdad. He came out of the fashion closet and into our eyes at an '03 GenArt show. With his Mexican American heritage Verdad puts unique touches on classic Hollywood elegance.

There's an amazing in depth article with him in this month's Los Angeles Magazine written by Laurie Pike. Verdad holds nothing back as he talks about being on top to filing for bankruptcy. His fatal flaw in the glamor game was not paying attention to the business side of the industry. A designer's job is to create and be innovative not worry about late deliveries. Which, duh - if you're late with Saks and Nordstrom's obviously they'll drop you!

Greatness always has a savvy shadow, I love that Pike added this in:

"The name Yves Saint Laurent is synonymous with that of Pierre Berge, the French couturier's onetime lover and lifelong business partner. Marc Jacobs counts on Robert Duffy to crunch numbers and haul him into rehab. When Tom Ford left Gucci, he took with him Domenico De Sole, who was just as instrumental in turning around that company's fortunes."

As a FIDM grad it's sad to see the mistakes made. Even more tragic is that Verdad doesn't even have rights to his website or his name.

Well, what do you do when you fall down? Get right back up again!
