Now that I have your attention, check out the Leaping Bunny Program. It began in 1996 when shoppers started looking for "cruelty-free" cosmetics. Some beauty companies began claiming they were cruelty-free, yet without the participation of animal rights groups, how were consumers to know that they really were just that?
So eight national animal protection groups joined up to form the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) to promote a single comprehensive and internationally recognized standard for cruelty-free. And Pretties out shopping can identify which companies make the cut when they see the Leaping Bunny Logo.
More than 200 brands are already listed in its approved shopping guide, and with more consumer awareness (and pressure) this number will surely grow. So keep an eye out for this little fella, and make 2009 a better one for the bunnies!
