Fekkai's Salon Color (part 2 of 2)

So after dreaming about it and then struggling to get it, I finally received my own box of Frédéric Fekkai Salon Color. And I picked shade 4W Lara; or what I'd like to call, "Zoey Deschanel brown."

I have dabbled in many different at-home color treatments and Fekkai's was the first I've come across to offer a pre-treament conditioner in addition to the usual post-treatment which all other box colors have. At that alone I was impressed. I don't know for sure if the two treatments together will add "40% more softness, silkiness and shine" like the website says (Hahaha 40%? Really?!) but I'm sure it helps. Although, now that I think about it, the website also said that Salon Color was available at Fekkai salons and I found out the hard way that it wasn't. Okay, okay, I'm letting it go. Breathe...

But this Fekkai stuff was way more professional in the tools it provides that any other color I've used before. Instead of the old "mix this together in a ketchup-style squeeze bottle and shake it up" that I usually get, this kit has an actual bowl with a pretty professional looking brush so that you can stir the color and get the right consistency, just like the do in the salon. Another upgrade.

I totally adored applying the no-drip color with the pro-style brush that the kit came with. It was way easier and much more effective instead of slopping and smearing it on which, sadly, is what I usually do. And I know it seems cheesy, but the tips provided by the expert colorists from Fekkai's Salon were actually really helpful.

But here's a couple of drawbacks. First, I must be honest, the smell was the same gross chemical color smell that I'm used to, but with a subtle aroma that reminded me of puke. So not Pretty. Plus, I'm used to getting color all over my neck and face and even though the directions tell me to wash it off immediately, I never do; I just wait to clean up when the whole process is over and it's never mattered before. Well with Fekkai's Salon Color, trust me, it does matter. Wash that stuff off your skin ASAP or you'll regret it when you still see traces of dye on your earlobe three days later. But perhaps this is also just another symptom of the quality of color provided in this kit? Maybe it will last longer? Only time will tell.

And let's get to the most important part: my hair. Love the color, it looks natural and shiny and it's texture isn't too dry and weird. So the final verdict: I'm incredibly happy I used Fekkai and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an at-home color. Your hair's health is worth the extra money.
