We know the economy is tanking, so it's the perfect time for a guilt free shopping spree in Downtown. Everything is either affordable, on sale, or negotiable. There's two huge shopping attractions those in the know always hit up:
Sample Sale Fridays and
Santee Alley.

If samples sales are your thing then this is your Mecca. The California Mart, where those hip designers have showrooms, is open to the public the last Friday of every month. This also includes surrounding fashion biz buildings The New Mart, Cooper Design Space, and the Gerry Building. All conveniently located near the intersection of 9th and Los Angeles Street. Get there super early because the fashion mavens cometh for these bargains. Flat rate parking is available at lots nearby and doors open at 9am with sales raging til 3pm.

For those who can't make it on Fridays, drive down Saturday morning to browse through the Santee Alleys. This historic area will probably look like Mexico to you, but don't shy away just yet. The area of over 150 vendors of clothing, shoes, accessories, toys, etc is open from 10am til 5pm. It's best to go in the mornings to avoid crowds and competition. The
Prettiest deals are on novelty jewelry, as this where many boutique buyers come to snatch pieces for their shops.
Santee Alley is located between Santee St and Maple Ave, from Olympic to 12th St.
