On the hipness of headbands

Is it just me or are "designing headbands" the fashion world's equivalent to writing children's books? First I read about the delightful Z-lister Phoebe Price taking on headband design, but now the - cough - more respectable Mischa Barton (hey, she's not at the top of her game but at least she's been in a hit show) will also diversify her talents and birth more headbands to the world.

Because of these two ladies, I was all ready to completely agree with the experts at Beauty Counter Blog in lamenting how this is a fad that won't go away. But then I tried in vain to find examples of terrible looking headbands and came up empty. With the notable exception of Ms. Price (sorry Phoebe! I still hope to run into on Roberston!) all the pictures I came up with were...cute. Especially the non-glittery hippie kind. And I know that Beauty Counter Blog is all uppity about how headbands perhaps are: A bohemian declaration or a statement that simply says, “I bought these at Urban Outfitters and so can you”?

But so what? Urban Outfitters has cool stuff that I can afford (and you know those chicks at the Beauty Counter Blog probably stop in from time to time as well). So I'll make my final point with yet another picture of Brigette Bardot:

So there.
