Snuggie Revolution

The Snuggie has been everywhere lately and don't try to pretend like you know don't know what I'm talking about. The fleece blanket with arms that you can cuddle up with on the couch while watching TV or reading a good book. Every Snuggie even comes with a book light- genius!


According to a recent article in Advertising Age by Jack Neff, "The quirky little blanket with sleeves has become the rament of the zeitgeist, with more than 4 million units sold in just over three months and more than 200 parody videos on YouTube. Fox News hones in on a woman wearing a Snuggie as she braved the cold attending Barack Obama's inauguration on Jan. 20, five days after Ellen DeGeneres donned one of her daytime talk show."

Wow this thing is really taking over and unfortunately I don't have a Snuggie; but I'd get one if their shipping was speedier. According to Neff's article, "4 million of the blankets already shipped or on order, or just under $40 million in retail sales ." That's a lot of Snuggies and a sweet profit, maybe the fashion industry could learn something from Snuggie's sales tactics? Although, there is that pesky 4-6 week waiting period that people are not so crazy about. Apparently retailers that are supposed to carry the Snuggie sell out immediately before they've even reached shelves. However, like the ShamWow, you must beware of impostors online!
