While Best Buy is stayin' alive malls are closing throughout America. According to NY Times, "there are roughly 1,500 malls in the United States, according to the International Council of Shopping Centers, many of them ailing, some of them being converted into office buildings, and others closing their doors for good." That doesn't sound so good.
The article also links to deadmalls.com, which is exactly what it sounds like. They have pictures and information about dead malls. Those on watch in CA include:
- Central City Mall / Carousel Mall: San Bernardino, CA
- Fallbrook Center: West Hills, CA
- Hawthorne Mall: Hawthorne, CA
- Indian Hill Mall: Pomona, CA
- The Quad: Whittier, CA
- Sherman Oaks Galleria: Los Angeles, CA
- Whittwood Mall: Whittier, CA
Anyways, as we've said before it's going to take creativity and innovation to keep retail alive.

Beverly Center is basically an upscale Fox Hills Mall. High ends stores but the same low end crowd.
