What the Oscars is really all about

I whole-heartily agree with the geniuses at Sartorial Pontifications that this year's Oscars sucked when it came to what I most enjoyed: ogling dresses. Like I feared, the lack of red carpet prancing had a lot to do with it. Plus my fave icons like Cate Blanchett, Charlize Theron, Uma Thurman, Helen Mirren weren't there. To add insult to injury, the great Nicole Kidman only showed her absolutely to die for "my boobs can grow foliage" ice princess L'Wren Scott dress on stage.

So I must console myself with some of my favorite dresses of year's past.

I've already revealed this one as my all-time favorite, but here's it from the front.

Nicole Kidman in Dior, 1997

and here again in Dior, 2000

Marion Cotillard in Gaultier, 2008

Cate in 2000

Kate Winslet in Ben de Lisi, 2002

Reese Witherspoon in Nina Ricci, 2007
I'll think of more.
